Frustrated over the proliferation of social media posts fueling an explosion of users to this beautiful but ecologically fragile area, Washington State Senator Noam Moore Krauding has introduced a bill aimed at reducing trail usage by making the Enchantment Lakes less enchanting. His bill calls for renaming landmarks in the extremely popular area with names less appealing. Little Annapurna will be renamed Little Anaphylactic, Prusik Peak will become Putrid Peak, Lake Viviane Lake Villainous, Sprite Lake Spite Lake, Inspiration Lake Perspiration Lake, Perfection Lake Infectious Lake, Dragontail Peak Draggon Mountain, Colchuck Lake Upchuck Lake and Asgard Pass\u2014well let\u2019s just say it has something to do with the rear entrance to the lakes.<\/p>\n
The bill also establishes a fund for influencers to get the word out by using hashtags with the new names and by showing less flattering photos of the area like in white out conditions, pouring rain, and under a cloak of darkness.<\/p>\n
Reactions in the hiking community so far have been mixed. Some hikers like Noah Segret argues the bill is too late and that the Enchantments Spell is hard to break. But other hikers like Ima Gatekeeper heralds the bill so she can once again have the place to herself. Still other hikers like Dea Withit says the bill is unnecessary as there are plenty of alternative less crowded just as appealing places as the Enchantments to hike\u2014and some literally in the next valley over. But Yuel Gottabekiddin is skeptical, since all he sees on his Instagram feed are pictures of the Enchantments. Never\u2014the-less, Krauding hopes the bill passes so he can at least access his favorite fishing spot along the Icicle River without having to get behind a procession of Subarus.<\/p>\n
